Pharmakon Long Term Care Pharmacy, Inc. was founded by Paul J. Elmer, R.Ph. in February of 2003 with the goal to provide medications to those in long term care. Pharmakon is located on the North side of Indianapolis; however, Pharmakon services are not limited to only Indiana but rather
throughout Kentucky, Illinois, and Ohio. Pharmakon is continually looking to bring its unique personalized service to new areas throughout the Midwest. As a founding principal Pharmakon sought not to limit its service to only nursing facilities, but rather desired to expand its services those who are in long-term child care facilities and those who are mentally ill. Due to Pharmakon’s unique and diverse customer base, it is always looking for new, unique and cost efficient methods to service its ever growing community.
Currently Pharmakon has a staff of 60 employees, which includes 15 pharmacist, 2 nurses, 1 accountant, 5 Medicare billers, with the remaining staff which are pharmacy techs and delivery drivers who provide a personal serviceto each of its clients. One of the founding goals of Pharmakon was to provide a level of service not found in the large nation-wide long term care pharmacies. Pharmakon not only seeks to provide a personalized service but also prides itself on the ability to provide a wide range of services. Because Pharmakon strives to provide specialized services, Pharmakon has a wide range of packaging that the facility may chose from; for example Pharmakon provides not only the typical punch-card for individual medications but also special compliance packaging for an easier distribution to the patients and for a more precise dosage. In addition, Pharmakon provides for specialized compounded intravenous solutions and various other compounded medications. The services provided by Pharmakon also allows for the pharmacy to provide nutritional supplies and other specialty items upon the facility’s request. Pharmakon strives to obtain the best prices on the medication and then passes that saves on to the customer. Pharmakon understands that for most individual’s medications are not luxury items but rather necessities and thus Pharamakon seeks to ensure that those necessities do not cost the customer their life-savings or hinder their enjoyment of life.
